Ecuadorian president names former presidential adviser as new foreign minister

Quito (Ecuador), January 3: Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso announced on Sunday that he has appointed former presidential adviser Juan Carlos Holguin as the new minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, replacing Mauricio Montalvo, who has been serving in the position since May 24, 2021.
Lasso wrote on Twitter that Holguin assumes following the president's decision to "entrust new functions" to Montalvo, "which will be announced tomorrow during the award ceremony with which I will thank him for his services."
"This reinforcement in the team is intended to underpin the main goal of the government in its foreign policy: to promote trade agreements and open the economy to the world to continue the reactivation of foreign investment and employment," the president wrote.
A businessman who studied corporate communication and public relations, Holguin is part of the president's inner circle and led the current government's transition team.
