Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian in the West Bank

Mar 18, 2023

Jerusalem [Israel], March 18: The Israeli army announced that soldiers shot a Palestinian who approached them armed with a knife near the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Authority announced that the wounded Palestinian died soon after.
The military said he refused to be identified by soldiers and pulled out a knife, prompting them to open fire.
It was the latest incident in the worst wave of violence between the two nations in years.
The escalation began a year ago after a series of Palestinian attacks on Israelis that led to frequent arrests of suspected Palestinian extremists.
Since the beginning of this year, 85 Palestinians have been killed, including today's victim.
14 people were killed in Palestinian attacks on Israelis in 2023.
About half of those killed this year were Palestinians who were connected to extremist organizations, according to AP data. Israel, however, claims that most of those killed were extremists.
According to the Israeli human rights organization Bezelem, almost 150 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem last year, the most since 2004.
In Palestinian attacks on Israelis at the same time, 30 people were killed.
