Koblenz [Germany],March 15: Two girls of12 and 13 have confessed to killing another 12-year-old girl in the German town of Freudenberg, a crime one senior investigator said left him "speechless." The suspects and the victim had known each other, the policeannounced on Tuesday in the nearby city of Koblenz.
They did not give any information about the motive because the children are under the age of criminal responsibility. The victim - only identified publicly by the name Luise - had been stabbed several times. The missing 12-year-old was found dead on Sunday near a cycle path. On Monday, the authorities announced that the child had been the victim of a crime.
The schoolgirl was last seen alive at around 5:30 pm on Saturday, when she was walking home after visiting a friend. A search was launched involving police and fire service personnel tracker dogs, and a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera. "We do not have a murder weapon at the moment," said thepublic prosecutor.
Police officers searched the area around the crime scene again on Tuesday. The girls suspected of the crime had been targeted by investigators because their statements from an initial questioning contradicted the statements of other witnesses. During a second interview in the presence of their guardians and psychologists on Monday, they were confronted with the contradictions and finally confessed to the crime.
