Washington DC (USA), September 16: Continuing wildfires on the United States West Coast are affecting major sports events.
In Major League Baseball, a game between the Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants was scheduled for Tuesday in Seattle, Washington. It was postponed due to poor air quality caused by smoke and ash from the fires.
In golf, the Ladies Professional Golf Association said it is reducing a tournament in Portland, Oregon, to a 54-hole event. Its opening is pushed back from Thursday to Friday.
The blazes are being fanned by dry air and strong winds. The death toll as of Monday stood at 35.
