Mar 09, 2021

Buenos Aires (Argentina), March 9: Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on Monday called on the country's governors to make a commitment to end gender-based inequality and build a just society.
Marking International Women's Day on March 8, Fernandez presided over the signing of the "Federal Agreement for a United Argentina against gender violence" at Government House in Buenos Aires, the office of the presidency said in a statement.
"Let's commit ourselves to put an end to gender inequality, to build an egalitarian society, to not discriminate against anyone because of their gender, and to be the just society that we deserve," Fernandez urged.
If Argentina wants to fully modernize and feel pride in doing so, "the first thing we have to do is put everyone on an equal footing," he added.
In Argentina, 47 femicides (homicides driven by hate for women) took place in the first two months of the year, that's one for every 30 hours on average, according to a report released on Sunday by state news agency Telam.
