Italy's government will not give in to prisoner on hunger strike

Rome [Italy], February 1: Italy's government said on Tuesday it will not give in to a convicted anarchist who has been on hunger strike for more than 100 days to protest the terms of his imprisonment.
Alfredo Cospito is serving a decades-long prison sentence for a 2012 shooting attack on a nuclear power company executive and the 2006 bombing of a police academy.
Due to his ailing health, he was transferred to a hospital ward in a prison in Milan.
But Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said the overall terms of Cospito's imprisonment won't change.
Cospito launched his hunger strike because he is angry that a court classified his crimes as acts of terrorism, which is why he is subject to the same aggravated prison conditions as, say, a mafia boss. (dpa)
