7 face murder probe after killing of right-wing activist in Lyon

Feb 20, 2026

Paris [France], February 20: Seven suspects are facing murder investigations after the killing of a right-wing activist in the central French city of Lyon. The suspects, aged between 20 and 26, are to be brought before a magistrate, prosecutor Thierry Dran said on Thursday.
Some of them have admitted to striking the student, but deny any intent to kill. The search for other suspects is continuing, while four people who were not directly involved in the attack have been released.
The left-wing France Unbowed (LFI) party has come under massive pressure following the incident last week, which occurred on the sidelines of a rally protesting an appearance by LFI Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan in Lyon.
A radical left-wing group with links to LFI is suspected of involvement in the attack.
According to media reports, several of those arrested are linked to the anti-fascist group Jeune Garde (Young Guard), which was allegedly co-founded by an LFI lawmaker before being banned last year.
