Afghan officials and UN say three civilians killed in Pakistani strikes

Kabul [Afghanistan], September 23: At least three civilians were killed and four others injured in Pakistani military airstrikes on Afghanistan, the United Nations and Afghan officials said on Monday.
In a statement, the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said the victims killed in Afghanistan's Kunar province included a man, a woman and a girl.
Pakistan's Ministry of Information said that three targets in the border region with Afghanistan were struck during Sunday's operation, adding that 28 terrorists were killed.
The strikes took place in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Paktika, Pakistani security sources told DPA. The sources said they targeted the hideouts of a Pakistani Taliban group based in the border provinces, which is allegedly behind deadly cross-border bombings in recent months.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid condemned the Pakistani strikes and vowed an appropriate response.
"We condemn this aggression and injustice and consider it a repetition of such crimes," Mujahid said in a statement, accusing Pakistan's military establishment of carrying out the strikes to divert attention from security failures inside the country.
