Tehran [Iran], December 19: Iran's border guards in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan intercepted a "terrorist group" seeking to enter the country from Pakistan, semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Sunday.
"After learning about the terrorist group's intention of entering the country and carrying out acts of sabotage," the border guards intercepted it by beefing up security in the targeted area, Mehr cited provincial border guard commander Hossein-Ali Farahi as saying.
After an hour of ambush, the Iranian border guards spotted some of the "armed terrorists" who attempted to enter Iran through the shared border with Pakistan. The "armed terrorists" retreated to Pakistan after an exchange of fire with the Iranian border guards, according to Farahi.
The Iranian side searched the area after the combat and found ammunition and military equipment, such as bullets and grenades, the commander said.
