Cambodia asks UNSC to intervene

Dec 12, 2025

Phnom Penh [Cambodia], December 12: Cambodia has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to intervene in its reignited border dispute with Thailand.
In a letter to the council presidency, Cambodia's ambassador to the United Nations urged the body to press the Thai military for "an immediate cessation of all attacks" and to dispatch an independent UN fact-finding mission to ascertain the facts on the ground.
The letter describes the latest Thai military operations as "violations of international humanitarian law." The conflict between the two south-east Asian neighbours, which had appeared largely calm in recent weeks, flared up again last week.
Since Sunday, both sides have accused each other of being the first to break a recently observed ceasefire along their 800-kilometre shared border. Ongoing fighting has since claimed several lives and forced more than 500,000 people from their homes. (DPA)
