Cambodian Prime Minister Thanks President Trump, Agrees to Immediate Ceasefire with Thailand

Phnom Penh [Cambodia], July 27: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has thanked US President Donald Trump for intervening to mediate fighting on Cambodia's border with Thailand.

Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia agreed to the proposal for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, as he said on July 24 to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, which is the rotating chair of ASEAN.
According to Mr. Hun Manet, the US President had a phone call with Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and conveyed that the Thai side also agreed to President Trump
Prime Minister Hun Manet said he had instructed Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn to discuss with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to help coordinate with the Thai Foreign Minister to quickly implement the agreed principles, with the goal of ending casualties on both sides.
Mr. Hun Manet thanked President Trump for his efforts to mediate between Cambodia and Thailand, while warning Bangkok not to reverse the decision.
Earlier, on July 26, US President Donald Trump said he had spoken with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia and received signals that both sides wanted a ceasefire.
In response, Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai thanked President Trump and said that Thailand "in principle agreed to a ceasefire" but "wanted to see sincere goodwill from Cambodia," according to Reuters.
On July 26, the Thai Foreign Ministry posted a notice saying that Bangkok agreed in principle to a ceasefire with Phnom Penh and began "bilateral dialogue" to end the conflict.
