Colombia's Petro says US military presence in Caribbean 'about oil'

Buenos Aires [Argentina], November 27: Colombian President Gustavo Petro has said the increased US military presence in the Caribbean has more to do with Venezuela's oil reserves than with fighting drug crime.
"That's a negotiation about oil," Petro told US broadcaster CNN in an interview published on Wednesday. "I believe that is [US President Donald] Trump's logic. He's not thinking about the democratization of Venezuela, let alone the narco-trafficking," the president said. Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world.
Relations between Bogota and Washington have deteriorated significantly recently. The US government accuses Petro of a lack of determination in the fight against drug cartels and has imposed sanctions on the president. (DPA)
