Coroner concludes Boeing whistleblower's death as suicide

May 18, 2024

San Francisco [US], May 18: A coroner's office said in a report released on Friday that it has concluded the investigation into the death of Boeing whistleblower John "Mitch" Barnett, and all findings suggest he died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Barnett, 62, was found dead in his truck on March 9 in Charleston, U.S. state of South Carolina. He was alleging Boeing retaliated against him for complaints about quality lapses, and was scheduled to testify in court the day he died.
A review of medical records and interviews found that Barnett was under chronic stress because of the Boeing lawsuit, was experiencing anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, and was grieving the 2022 death of his wife, according to the Charleston County Coroner's Office report.
