Cuba reports 1,087 cases, 9 deaths from COVID-19

Havana (Cuba), June 7: Cuba has once again reported more than 1,000 new cases of COVID-19, reporting on Sunday 1,087 infections and nine deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 148,918 and the death toll to 1,012.
Havana continues to be the epicenter of the disease, reporting another 408 cases in its 15 municipalities, with an incidence rate of 344.8 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
The Ministry of Public Health, which has begun an emergency health intervention in seven Havana municipalities with the vaccine candidate Abdala, announced it will extend the immunization campaign to the entire capital, while the drive continues in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba, and the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
It is expected that by the end of July, the entire population of Havana, where about 2.2 million people live, will be immunized.
More than 2.7 million Cubans have received at least one dose of vaccine through participating in clinical trials or through the emergency intervention.
Cuba is facing a third wave of the novel coronavirus that has forced the re-application of preventive health measures throughout the country, including the suspension of in-person classes and the closure of public places.
