Dozens of suspected Mafiosi detained in major crackdown in southern Italy

Rome [Italy], November 8: Dozens of suspected members of the Mafia have been detained in a major crackdown on organized crime in Italy, police said on Thursday.
The Carabinieri police force said 59 people were held in raids focused on the 'Ndrangheta group, which is mainly active in the southern region of Calabria.
The detainees are accused of various criminal activities, including drug and arms trafficking, extortion and assault.
Numerous suspects were from the city of Lamezia Terme in the province of Catanzaro. Most were jailed, while some were placed under house arrest. Italian authorities have been battling organized crime in the country for decades. (DPA)
