Fire, explosion at Chad munitions depot leaves many dead, injured

N'Djamena [Chad], June 20: Nine people have been killed in a fire and explosion at a weapons and ammunition depot in the Chadian capital N'Djamena, according to government figures. The Central African country's Ministry of Health says 46 others were injured. President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno announced an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and find out who might be responsible for the incident. The fire broke out late on Tuesday evening in an army reserve camp in the north of the capital of N'Djamena. Amateur videos published on social networks showed large fireballs in the sky. The powerful explosions were reportedly felt throughout the city. (dpa)
