Gabon's constitutional court confirms Nguema as president with overwhelming majority

Libreville [Gabon], April 26: Gabon's Constitutional Court confirmed on Friday that Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has been elected president of the country.
According to the final results of the presidential election held on April 12, Nguema secured 94.85 percent of the total votes.
Dieudonne Aba'a Owono, head of the Constitutional Court, announced the results during a plenary session, saying that the proclamation was made in accordance with the law and that no appeals had been filed.
The official inauguration of the president-elect is scheduled for May 3 in Libreville, the capital of the Central African country.
According to the Constitution approved in a referendum held on Nov. 16 last year, the president of the Gabonese Republic is elected for a seven-year term, renewable only once.
