Guirassy the hero as Dortmund win to cut gap to leaders Bayern

Feb 02, 2026

Berlin [Germany], February 2: Serhou Guirassy missed a penalty but still scored twice to lead Borussia Dortmund to a tight 3-2 win against bottom side Heidenheim on Sunday.
In the earlier game, VfB Stuttgart snatched all three points with a late 1-0 win against Freiburg.
With the victory, Dortmund cut the gap to Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich to six points after the German record champions were held to a 2-2 draw with SV Hamburg on Saturday.
"It's six points, we want to attack now. Maybe we can now start thinking about Bayern again," Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck said.
Dortmund took the lead in the 44th minute after Heidenheim goalkeeper Diant Ramaj failed to clear a corner and the ball found Waldemar Anton, who slammed it home from close range. Before the break, however, Heidenheim levelled thanks to Julian Niehues. He met Mathias Honsak's low cross, but his initial effort was blocked by Daniel Svensson.
But Niehues was first to the rebound and scrambled the ball past keeper Gregor Kobel.
Dortmund were stunned when Niehues added a second to his name in the 48th, helped by a slight deflection off Svensson. While Marvin Pieringer wasted a good chance to make it 3-1 in the 57th, Guirassy didn't waste a penalty awarded to Dortmund after a handball and levelled the game in the 68th.
And it was Guirassy who completed the turnaround for the hosts, finishing off a fulminant counter-attack just two minutes later.
Guirassy missed a penalty in the 85th and the chance to put the game to bed, but luckily for Dortmund, Heidenheim also couldn't complete two dangerous chances in stoppage time.
Heidenheim sit bottom of the table, six points from Werder Bremen, the first team outside the relegation zone.
"This is a horrible result for us. We didn't deserve this defeat. Dortmund were lucky," Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt said.
