Heat-related deaths in the US increased by 117%

Washington [US], August 29: The report, published on August 26 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, showed that from 1999 to 2023, the US witnessed more than 21,500 deaths related to high temperatures.
Based on an analysis of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention records, researchers found that there were 2,325 heat- related deaths in 2023, a 117% increase from 1,069 in 1999.
According to The Guardian, in 2023, the world experienced the hottest average temperature since 1850. Meanwhile, in the US , 15 high temperature records have been broken since the beginning of 2024. The study's authors warn that without timely intervention, the death toll from heat will continue to increase and persist.
