Iran holds large-scale military manoeuvres on southern coast

Feb 23, 2025

Tehran [Iran], February 23: Iran's armed forces have begun major military exercises off the country's southern coast, Tehran said on Saturday.
Infantry troops, armoured units, air defence forces and naval units are taking part in the manoeuvres over a large area that includes the Makran coastal region as well as parts of the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean.
The manoeuvres are the latest in a series of exercise by the country's various branches in recent months.
Naval units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) held naval manoeuvres in the Persian Gulf in January, while air defence forces have also been rehearsing their operational readiness around important nuclear facilities.
Rising military tensions with Israel have raised fears of a conflict breaking out. The Israeli government has repeatedly threatened to attack Iranian nuclear sites, arguing that Tehran is developing a weapons programme. (DPA)
