Iran says it shot down 2 F-35 jets, Israel denies

Jun 14, 2025

Tehran [Iran], June 14: Mehr news agency reported on June 14 that Iran's military air defense force shot down two F-35 fighter jets and a large number of Israeli drones .
The above information was also published by the Tehran Times , adding that two Israeli F-35s violated Iranian airspace on June 13 during an Israeli attack and a female pilot was captured after parachuting into Iranian territory.
The information was also shared by the official X account of the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi (India), according to WION. The post stated: "Iranian air defense forces shot down two Israeli F-35 fighter jets and intercepted several hostile drones."
Responding to the above information, spokesman Avichay Adraee of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied that two of its fighter jets were shot down by Iran and a pilot was captured.
"Iranian fake news. This information being spread by Iranian media is completely baseless," the spokesman said.
According to The Economic Times , the F-35 model manufactured by Lockheed Martin (USA) specifically for Israel, called the F-35I Adir, is the focus of this country's air campaign in Iran.
It is one of the most powerful weapons in the Israeli Air Force, with a custom-designed electronic warfare system and advanced stealth capabilities.
In addition to its straight edges and radar-absorbent coating, the F-35's internal fuel and weapons stores likely help the plane avoid detection.
According to The National Interest , the aircraft's operating cost in the air is $44,000/hour. This fighter jet has sophisticated information processing and stealth capabilities and can fly at supersonic speeds of up to Mach 1.6 (548.8 m/s).
In 2016, Israel purchased 50 F-35 fighter jets through the US foreign military sales process.
By producing its own wings and electronic warfare systems for the F-35 I, Israel has significantly modified the aircraft. In addition, they have created an advanced version of the pilot's helmet, which displays airspeed, altitude, target data and other important statistics on the pilot's visor.
