Microsoft cuts more than 9,000 employees

Washington [US], July 4: Microsoft Corporation announced on July 2 that it will cut more than 9,000 employees, according to CNBC. This move will affect nearly 4% of the company's global workforce across various departments.
Microsoft continues to make organizational changes to reposition the company and its best teams for success in a dynamic marketplace, a company spokesperson said .
This is Microsoft's biggest layoff since 2023. The company previously cut jobs in January, May, and June this year. As of June 2024, Microsoft's total workforce is about 228,000 people.
According to CNBC citing an internal source, similar to the cut in May, Microsoft is looking to reduce the number of middle managers.
Microsoft reported strong results for the quarter ended March 31. The company's revenue was more than $70 billion, up 13% year-over-year, with net income of $25.82 billion.
