Moscow and Kiev swap 146 POWs

Aug 25, 2025

Moscow [Russia], August 25: Russia and Ukraine have carried out another exchange of prisoners of war, the Defence Ministry in Moscow said on Sunday.
The Russian ministry said the two sides handed over 146 soldiers each. In addition, it said eight residents of the western Russian region of Kursk were released.
Ukraine, which on Sunday celebrated its Independence Day, welcomed the exchange.
"Our people are coming home," President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Facebook, thanking the United Arab Emirates for mediating in the exchange.
Russia has been waging a war against Ukraine for three and a half years.
Direct negotiations between Moscow and Kiev on a possible end to the fighting have so far made little progress, but have resulted in several prisoner exchanges since the talks resumed in May.
The exchanges are primarily intended to free seriously injured and sick soldiers. (DPA)
