He argues that Tesla is worth as much as the rest of the auto industry combined: "For investors, if I'm using something, I should keep using it."
In addition to Tesla, Mr. Musk also owns rocket company SpaceX and social media platform X.
An investigation by The Wall Street Journal published in January found that Mr. Musk had used drugs including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and hallucinogenic mushrooms. This worried executives and board members at his companies. Mr. Musk denied this information in his interview with Mr. Lemon.
The report raised concerns that illegal drug use could violate federal policies and could jeopardize SpaceX's government contracts.
The Wall Street Journal , citing knowledgeable sources, revealed that a director at Tesla was so disappointed with Mr. Musk's actions that she did not run for re-election to the board of directors in 2019.
