Washington [US], December 26: US President Joe Biden signed 50 laws on December 24, including recognizing the bald eagle as the official symbol of the country and that congressmen will not receive pensions if they commit crimes.
According to Reuters, Mr. Biden has established the first federal anti-bullying standard to address violence and deaths at higher education institutions.
President Biden also recently commuted the sentences of 37 of 40 federal inmates on death row to life without parole, and vetoed legislation to add 66 new judges to the understaffed federal courts.
In another development, sharing on the social network Truth Social, US President-elect Donald Trump announced on December 24 that after taking office, he would direct the Department of Justice to "vigorously pursue" the death penalty to protect the American people from "rapists , murderers, and monsters". Mr. Trump 's move was in response to the news that President Biden commuted the sentences of 37 death row inmates to life in prison without parole. Unlike executive orders, pardons cannot be reversed by the next president. Mr. Trump's transition team also criticized Mr. Biden's decision to commute the sentence as "pardoning the most evil person in the world ".
