Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police highlight new drug smuggling tactics

Dubai [UAE], May 15: Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Secretariat, Julian Bianco, noted the emergence of new drug smuggling patterns in Pacific Island nations, such as exchanging drugs for logistical services.
Speaking to WAM on the sidelines of the Global Police Summit, he explained that these new drug smuggling patterns represent a direct challenge to security agencies.
He affirmed that stronger regional cooperation and intelligence sharing are vital in combating the rising threat of transnational drug trafficking in the 22 member Pacific Island nations, particularly with increased maritime drug transit towards Australia and New Zealand.
