Minsk [Belarus], June 27: Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as one of the key centers of global development.
Over the ten years of its existence, the EAEU has established itself as a successful integration association and has rightfully established itself as one of the key centers of global development, Putin said on Thursday at the plenary session of the fourth Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk.
The Russian leader said this integration association makes a real contribution to the creation of a large space of partnership, cooperation and economic growth on the Eurasian continent. Interaction in the new multipolar world must be built on an equal and fair basis, he added.
The combined GDP of the EAEU members increased from 1.6 trillion U.S. dollars to 2.6 trillion dollars. Trade turnover with third countries increased by 38 percent and amounts to 800 billion dollars. This is a completely comparable volume of trade turnover between the world's leading economic powers, Putin said.
The total volume of mutual trade within the EAEU has doubled to 97 billion dollars, with 93 percent of payments between the countries of the EAEU conducted in national currencies, Putin stressed.
The Russian president also said the EAEU countries have achieved significant success in linking national payment systems and bank cards.
