Putin: Tomahawk missile aid to Ukraine will 'destroy' Russia-US relations

Oct 06, 2025

Moscow [Russia], October 6: Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that if the US provided Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine for long-range strikes deep into Russian territory, this would mean 'destroying' relations between Moscow and Washington.
"This will lead to the destruction of relations between the two countries, or at least the emerging positive trend in this relationship," President Putin said in a video clip released by Russian state television reporter Pavel Zarubin on October 5.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the US will provide Ukraine with intelligence on energy infrastructure targets in Russia and consider selling Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. The Tomahawk cruise missile has a range of 2,500 km. If Ukraine gets this missile, the Kremlin and many Russian territories will be in its sights.
On September 28, US Vice President JD Vance said the US was considering Ukraine's request to provide Tomahawk missiles, but had not made a final decision.
However, Reuters quoted a source familiar with the matter as saying that the transfer of Tomahawks to Ukraine could face many challenges because the missile stock is currently allocated to the Navy and for other missions of the US military.
Earlier, President Putin said on October 2 that Ukraine could not use Tomahawks without the direct participation of US military personnel and therefore any supply of such missiles to Kyiv would cause a "new stage of escalation".
The Russian leader added that Tomahawks could harm Russia, but the country has the ability to shoot them down and improve its air defense capabilities.
In another development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on October 5: "A unilateral ceasefire in the air is completely feasible, and it can pave the way for a real diplomatic solution. The US and Europe must act to force President Putin to stop." The statement was made after Ukraine suffered consecutive heavy attacks in recent days.
