Moscow [Russia], August 6: The explosions began shortly after 11pm on August 5 (3am this morning, August 6, Vietnam time) and a bright streak of light that could be an anti-aircraft missile could then be seen soaring over the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, according to AFP.
"Russia carried out a missile strike in the direction of Kyiv and its suburbs. Air defense forces and equipment were active in the capital and its suburbs. According to preliminary data, enemy missiles were hit," Sergiy Popko, the military commander of the city of Kyiv, wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
No damage or casualties were reported in Kyiv, Mr Popko said. AFP reporters heard loud explosions in the east and centre of the capital Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later said air defense systems had been deployed to intercept the drones in Kyiv province.
There is currently no information about Russia 's response to the above accusations.
Kyiv has reported several heavy airstrikes in recent weeks, including a missile strike blamed on Russia that partially destroyed a children's hospital last month.
On July 31, Russia was accused of launching 89 drones into Ukraine , with more than 40 of them shot down over the capital Kyiv and the surrounding area. It was one of the largest Russian air strikes on Kyiv in months, according to AFP.
