Russia warns Ukraine amid escalating conflict

May 28, 2025

Moscow [Russia], May 28: The Russian Defense Ministry warned yesterday (May 27) that it would continue to target military-related facilities in Ukraine in response to Kyiv's sharp increase in drone attacks on Russian territory, according to RT.
The Russian Defense Ministry issued this warning after announcing that its air defense system had shot down 99 Ukrainian UAVs, including 56 in Russia's Belgorod province, during the night of May 26 and early morning of May 27. On the other hand, the Russian Defense Ministry announced yesterday that its army had taken control of the village of Stara Mykolaivka in Donetsk province in eastern Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force accused Russia of launching 60 UAVs into Ukraine on the night of May 26 and early morning of May 27, according to The Kyiv Independent. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have shot down 43 UAVs, while eight others disappeared from radar screens without causing any damage.
While Russia and Ukraine continue to trade blows with UAVs, The Wall Street Journal reported on May 26 that US President Donald Trump is increasingly frustrated with the peace process in Ukraine and may withdraw from the process if current efforts fail, and may add sanctions against Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that reports that the United States could impose new sanctions on Russia were part of a campaign to sabotage peace talks on Ukraine, according to Reuters.
