Russian drone attacks kill two, injure dozens: Zelensky

Jan 20, 2026

Kyiv [Ukraine], January 20: Dozens of people were wounded and at least two killed in new Russian attacks on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday.
"My condolences to their families and loved ones," Zelensky said in a morning post on social media.
He said Russia had launched more than 200 drones against Ukraine, with attacks reported in the regions of Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Khmelnytskyi and Odessa. He again called on allies to increase support.
"This week alone has seen more than 1,300 attack drones, around 1,050 guided aerial bombs and 29 missiles of various types in total. That is why Ukraine still needs more protection - above all, more missiles for air defense systems," Zelensky wrote.
Russia carries out daily attacks, frequently targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing widespread power and heating outages.
Zelensky accused Russia of "deliberately dragging out" diplomatic efforts to end the war - and pounding Ukraine in the meantime.
Kiev argues Moscow is seeking to increase pressure on the country to force it into accepting a peace plan on Russian terms.
Following Ukrainian counterattacks in Russian regions, emergency crews there are also dealing with power outages.
Russia's Defence Ministry said on Sunday that 63 Ukrainian drones had been shot down, but, as in most cases, did not provide details on any damage or casualties. Damage and casualty figures on the Russian side remain significantly lower than those reported in Ukraine.
