S Korean police asked to arrest Yoon

Jan 07, 2025

Seoul [South Korea], January 7: South Korea's police have been asked to arrest suspended president Yoon Suk Yeol, the Yonhap news agency reported on Monday.
Dozens of investigators working for the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) attempted to execute a court warrant for Yoon's detention on Friday after he ignored three summonses for questioning over his botched attempt to impose martial law on December 3. Police had now been asked to execute the warrant, however, they had yet to determine whether to cooperate with the CIO's request, Yonhap reported.
The CIO plans to seek an extension of the warrant before it expires at midnight (1500 GMT). Yoon's lawyer criticized the decision to delegate the arrest, likening it to subcontracting for a construction project, Yonhap reported.
Numerous supporters of Yoon have been demonstrating in front of the presidential residence in Seoul for days.
