SA student creates app to help people to find a job

Jan 01, 2023

South Africa, January 1: Mzamo Mbhele, a third-year IT software development student at Mangosuthu University of Technology, has created a job search app JOB X.
The app was inspired by people's inability to use job search apps and phones, especially among young people. The boy decided to make it easier for them to find a job by creating a simple and straightforward app that doesn't require any gadget skills.
JOB X helps job seekers find jobs by showing them available jobs nearby based on their qualifications. Best of all, the app has a zero rate, which means you don't need cell phone data to find a job.
"You download the app and register your information, such as your qualifications. The app will then determine your location and start showing you jobs available near your location based on the qualifications you entered. JOB X will show you jobs within 10 kilometers, and then the search will expand as you scroll down the page," Mzamo explains.
The app also simplifies the resume creation process and allows you to scan and attach documents from one single application, saving all documents in PDF format.
The app has been well received, attracting more than 40,000 users since its launch.
Mzamo has always been intrigued by how technology works and knew very soon that he wanted to pursue a career in technology. He even started repairing phones at the age of 11.
It was never easy for Mzamo to make his dream of a career in technology a reality because his parents couldn't afford university tuition. So he put all his efforts into his studies to get a scholarship. The young student studied hard to achieve his goal.
With the youth unemployment rate at 46.5 percent in the second quarter of this year, he believes the key to eradicating it lies in education and skills transfer.
"It all comes down to education and skill development. When young people acquire skills, they can create (or) build their own jobs and hire each other. Getting an education will help solve a lot of problems," Mzamo argues, as reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.
