Sixteen people die in bus crash on Indonesia's Central Java highway

Dec 23, 2025

Jakarta [Indonesia], December 23: A long-distance bus overturned at a toll road exit in Indonesia's Central Java province early Monday, killing 16 people, police said.
The bus was travelling overnight from the outskirts of Jakarta to Yogyakarta when it lost control and overturned on a highway in the city of Semarang, provincial police chief Ribut Hari Wibowo said.
Ribut said the driver survived and is being questioned as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash. At least 18 passengers are receiving treatment for their injuries in nearby hospitals.
Deadly traffic accidents are a recurring problem in Indonesia, particularly on major intercity routes across Java where overnight bus travel is common.
