Colombo [Sri Lanka], August 26:Sri Lankan President RanilWickremesinghe has permitted property developers to import tiles for their own use, local media reported on Thursday.
Sri Lanka banned the import of tiles last year in a bid to save foreign exchange.
Issuing a gazette, the president announced that the import of tiles and stones for "direct usage" was allowed, while the import for resale is still banned.
Condominiums, mixed development projects, approved hotels and government projects not limited by the regulations of the Board of Investment would be allowed to import tiles, the president said.
