Sri Lankan navy seizes heroin, meth off western coast

Colombo [Sri Lanka], April 13: The Sri Lankan navy has seized over 100 kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine from a fishing trawler during an operation off the country's western coast, the navy said on Saturday.
Navy spokesperson Buddhika Sampath told media that six suspects were arrested during the operation, with the trawler and suspects being brought to Dikowita fishery harbor in Sri Lanka's Western Province.
Sampath said the seized drugs have an estimated street value of 2 billion rupees, or approximately 6.7 million U.S. dollars.
It came just days after the Sri Lankan navy carried out the largest drug bust in the country's history, seizing over 700 kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine.
