Switzerland leave for World Cup sans Embolo

Jun 03, 2026

Stuttgart [Germany], June 3: The Swiss team was set to leave for the World Cup on Tuesday without Breel Embolo because the forward encountered visa problems.
The Swiss FA said that Embolo's Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for entry into the United States was initially granted but they were then informed "that his ESTA is being reviewed again."
They are now in contact with the authorities and expect the Stade Rennes player to travel soon. Embolo is helped by a staff member of the agency which organized the Swiss delegation's trip.
The Swiss are flying to Los Angeles and then move into their World Cup base camp in San Diego.
They will play a final tune-up against Australia before starting the World Cup on June 13 against Qatar.
Their other group stage opponents are Bosnia-Herzegovina and co-hosts Canada.
