Syria confirms President Al Sharaa will make rare visit to White House

Cairo [Egypt], November 3: Syria's interim President Ahmed Al Sharaa will make a rare visit to Washington this month, Syrian state media reported on Sunday, in a fresh sign of growing ties between the two countries.
Al Sharaa will go to the White House in early November for a "historic" visit, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani confirmed, according to the state television Al Ekhbariya.
The visit will be the first by a Syrian president to Washington since 1946, Syria's official news agency SANA said. Al Sharaa's talks in Washington will cover the reconstruction of war-devastated Syria, SANA quoted Al Shaibani as saying.
"We want a very strong partnership between the US and Syria," he added at a security forum in Bahrain.
On Saturday, the US news portal Axios, citing US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack, reported that Al Sharaa is expected to travel to Washington on November 10 and meet US President Donald Trump. Trump and Al Sharaa met in May in Saudi Arabia and in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly debate in New York. (DPA)
