Trump expects Musk to soon take on reduced government role: Reports

Apr 03, 2025

Washington DC [US], April 3: US President Donald Trump has suggested that tech billionaire Elon Musk may soon play a reduced role in his administration, according to reports by magazine Politico and broadcaster ABC News on Wednesday.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, the reports said Trump has indicated such a change to his close advisers.
Musk, whose companies include Tesla, X and SpaceX, has been looking at ways to cut US government spending but reports say his approach has divided top Trump aides.
Earlier this week, Trump told a journalist that Musk would "at some point" want to return to his companies. "He wants to," Trump said in Washington. "I'd keep him as long as I could keep him." ABC said Musk is employed as a "special government employee" - meaning his appointment can not go beyond 130 days. His term would be up at the end of May if the deal was not extended.
