Ukraine to deploy robot dog army on the front lines

Aug 09, 2024

Kyiv [Ukraine], August 9: During a test session in an undisclosed area of Ukraine, the metal robot dog known as "BAD One" stood up, crouched, ran and jumped on command.
Their creators say they are stealthy and agile, and could soon become an invaluable frontline force as Ukraine's military struggles to repel a Russian offensive.
Because of their small size and low profile, these robot dogs are difficult to detect. They can use thermal imaging to inspect enemy trenches or objects inside buildings in war zones. The core purpose of this new breed is to reduce risk to soldiers and increase operational capabilities.
"We have surveillance soldiers sent on reconnaissance missions, most of them are well-trained, experienced and always facing risks," the maker, who goes by the alias Yuri, told AFP.
The robot dog has a battery life of about 2 hours. Useful in detecting mines or improvised explosive devices, the robot dog can also carry 7 kg of ammunition or medicine to hot spots on the battlefield .
Ukraine is also working on a more advanced model called "BAD Two". "I can't say how many robot troops we have deployed in Ukraine, but this will have a significant impact on operations and increase the safety of soldiers," Yuri said.
If the robot dogs are confiscated by Russia, an emergency switch will automatically activate, allowing the operator to erase all data.
