UN commission condemns US-Israel attacks on Iran as violating UN Charter

Mar 05, 2026

Geneva [Switzerland], March 5: A UN commission of inquiry condemned the attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran, saying they violate the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against a country's territorial integrity or political independence.
The commission, an independent body of experts appointed by the UN Human Rights Council in 2022 to investigate human rights violations in Iran, expressed concern over Iran's retaliatory strikes in the region. The UN Charter is regarded as a kind of constitution for the international community. The Iranian population is now caught between a large-scale military campaign that may go on for weeks or months, and a government with a long record of gross human rights violations, the commission said.
