Washington warns US citizens globally about the risk of attack

May 18, 2024

Washington [US], May 18: The US State Department has issued a security warning to all US citizens globally about the risk of attack.
"Due to the potential risk from terrorist attacks, protests or other acts of violence against US citizens and interests , the Department of State advises US citizens abroad to exercise increased vigilance," the Department said. The US Department of State posted a notice on the ministry's website and social networking site X on May 18.
The U.S. Department of State has observed an increase in the potential for violence from foreign terrorist organizations against the LGBTQI+ community and related events. LGBTQI+ are people who are gay, bisexual, transgender and of other sexual orientations.
ABC News quoted a government official familiar with the matter as saying the warning was related to recent announcements from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security that foreign terrorist organizations could exploit LGBTQI+ events and venues during Pride month, which begins in June.
On May 17, the US Department of State also celebrated the international day against discrimination against the above community.
Last year, a safety alert was also issued during the month of the LGBTQ community after the Department of Homeland Security issued a report warning that domestic extremist and violent hate actors had increased threats in Lately year. LGBTQ rights organizations have been in a state of emergency in the US following a record wave of anti-LGBTQ bills as well as a rise in hate violence.
According to CBS News, although the State Department's bulletin warns against traveling abroad, there are still concerns about domestic threats from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). A May 10 intelligence bulletin obtained by CBS News stated that since the beginning of this year, IS has succeeded in carrying out campaigns in Iran, Russia and Turkey, calling for attacks on the West and threatening the groups. considered enemies, which may include the LGBTQ community.
"We continue to work with partners to assess the threat environment, provide updates to American citizens, and protect the homeland. We urge the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity for local law enforcement," a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said on May 17.
