Hanoi [Vietnam], May 21: Nguyen Van Chung said he had many new experiences while acting in films. On this occasion, the musician also revealed details about his fees for venturing into this new role.
Known as the author of hit songs like "Rain of Yesteryear," "Mother's Diary," and "Continuing the Story of Peace," Nguyen Van Chung's appearance in the film "Borrowed Shell" surprised audiences. Specifically, he plays Mạnh, a notorious tycoon in the business world who is also incredibly warm and doting on his daughter, Diễm Quỳnh ( played by Anh Phạm ). Supporting his daughter's passion for art, he even secretly spent a huge sum of money to secure Diễm Quỳnh's dream role.
Nguyen Van Chung shared about his new role. Reportedly, it took the producers considerable time to persuade the musician to agree to the role. Nguyen Van Chung, already familiar to audiences through his poignant ballads, children's songs, and most recently his hit song with over 10 billion views, made his portrayal of a notorious tycoon a bold decision. The producers stated that the script's deep exploration of the father-son relationship was the key to overcoming initial apprehension, as in real life, Nguyen Van Chung is a devoted father.
Sharing his thoughts on venturing into acting, musician Nguyen Van Chung revealed: "Initially, I refused because acting is completely outside of my strengths, and I was afraid it would affect the progress of an entire professional team. However, the persistent persuasion of the producer and especially the psychological depth of the character Mr. Manh kept me going."
According to Nguyen Van Chung, the character of Mr. Manh is a tycoon who can buy anything with money, but behind that facade is the loving heart of a father who always wants to protect his daughter from harm. "This is my first foray into film, and I hope to portray a truly interesting character, one that reflects the protective instincts of a real-life father, hoping to offer the audience a genuine perspective."
Regarding his salary, Nguyen Van Chung said that the amount initially made him think it was a low-budget film. However, after seeing the first images, he realized the director had invested financially to create the best possible product for this project. "For me, participating in a project where I receive little money but put a lot of heart and soul into it is more valuable. It's the same for me when I'm making music. There are projects that don't generate much revenue, but they give me meaning and joy in my profession," he shared.
As for Anh Pham, the actress couldn't hide her excitement at having the opportunity to act alongside Nguyen Van Chung in a pivotal role in the film. Commenting on her "on-screen father," Anh Pham shared: "Acting with Nguyen Van Chung brought me many special emotions. Although he always considers himself a newcomer on the big screen, in reality, Chung has a very keen instinct for acting and is incredibly emotional. He adapts extremely quickly, not only with me but also with the other actors."
Sharing a fond memory of working with the musician from the 80s generation, Anh Pham recounted: "Mr. Chung is a very family-oriented person. Once, even though he was busy on set, he didn't forget to call and order chicken for his son at home. Contrary to his on-screen roles, in real life he is incredibly humorous, always knowing how to joke around and create a relaxed atmosphere for everyone on the crew."
